The functions of social work are broad and dynamic, generally categorized into three main areas:

1. Curative (Remedial) Function: This involves direct intervention to eliminate or alleviate existing social problems. It focuses on helping individuals or groups recover from crises, such as providing therapy for trauma survivors, rehabilitating substance abusers, or counseling families in distress.

2. Preventive Function: This aims to stop problems before they occur or worsen. It involves early identification of at-risk populations and implementing programs to mitigate those risks, such as conducting anti-drug campaigns in schools or providing pre-marital counseling.

3. Developmental Function: This function focuses on capacity building, empowerment, and systemic change. It involves enhancing the quality of life and unlocking the potential of individuals and communities, such as organizing women's self-help groups (SHGs) or advocating for better educational infrastructure.
