Social Work Research is the systematic, critical, and scientific investigation of questions and problems relevant to the field of social work. It involves the application of research methods to solve practical problems faced by social workers in their practice or to build the knowledge base of the profession. Unlike pure sociological research, which seeks knowledge for its own sake, social work research is primarily applied and action-oriented.

Purpose of Social Work Research:

1. Problem Solving: To find effective solutions to practical problems encountered in the field (e.g., determining the most effective intervention for reducing juvenile recidivism).
2. Needs Assessment: To scientifically assess the needs of a community or population before designing an intervention or social welfare program.
3. Program Evaluation: To assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and impact of existing social work programs and policies, ensuring accountability to funding agencies and clients.
